A day off

Poppy, Zane and I headed up to the top of MT. Lemmon.

WE hiked around marshall gulch,we started from the first parking lot area because the gate was closed.
WE checked out the river boulder and scrambled around for abit.
Most of the problems on the boulder were too tough or had a bad landing.
From there we hiked and bushwacked around til we found the Mango boulder.
This took some serious doing but eventually we found it.
On the way down to the boulder Poppy took a spill.
So she's a bit banged up.
Well I worked a few of the problems on Mango boulder.
This thing is brutal, it overhangs by like 45 degrees. The hillside it's perched above is not a good place to fall.
So we stayed for a bit, I started feeling sick and the storm started moving in so we bailed.
Turns out we were up on the mt. all day, it really didn't feel like it. I think we all had a good time.
Zane was all smiles...the cameras batteris were dead. :) But we had the camera!

a better decision

So after classes and meetings and work Poppy,Zane and I headed up to Sabino.
They decided to walk and let me run out to mile marker 1 and back.
1st mile was 8min27sec56hund
2nd mile 8min 17sc22hund
Total time 16'44"78

I had a bit of a twinge and strain in my neck and shoulder so I chose to not ride or swim today.
The run felt good, I need to rest up for my tri.
Just light workouts from here on out.

recovering......slowly.......gaaaack

Trying to best figure out how to make gains and recover from Lake Merritt is becoming tricky.

As an added bonus it's hot and I'm putting in WAAAAAY too much time @ work.

Bike ride on the TT-
distance 5.54miles
17.4 avg. mph due in part because I had to stop for several lights and cars.
23.9 mph max
Time 19'05"
I decided I needed to run a bit too so as to get my legs back as soon as possible from Merritt.
So small run around the block-
1min walk warm up
9'27"64 run.
total 10'27"64

Tomorrows workout is one of my last real heavy workouts before my tri on the 5th.
I plan on coming close to making myself barf, it should be loads of fun.

I hope it's stoopid hot out with a horrible headwind and maybe a bazillion percent humidity.

I hope it's so hot out the rubber on my sneakers and bike tires melts, the water in the pool boils, I run out of water, get lost and barf all over!!! GRRRR!!!!!

half day

I did just short of a half-day at work 730am-640ish pm...
Well the new brooks came in the ups today!!!
So seeing I got home super late I decided to take a run to moms in the new shoes.
I took it super easy. 16min28 seconds to get there.
Then I swam 5minutes straight no stopping which turned out to be tricky considering it's a small pool, maybe 40 feet long so instead of turns I literally swam circles along the edge which turned out to be pretty tough.
Still recovering from Merritt. Being careful with recovery.

I think I kinda wiped out my electrolytes on my bike ride on monday.
Other then that I'll be going back into another taper or little or no training for my upcoming tri-on the 5th of july.
I'll round out this week with another ride, swim and run and rest this coming week probably starting monday.

Dizzy

I decided to ride the TT bike up to the park going a different way this time.
I didn't realize I'd be riding slightly up hill the whole way there and into a headwind on the way back.

It was 12 noon and very hot.
I didn't seem able to eat or drink and had the urge to hork the entire time.
I never did barf though.

distance 13.30 miles
15.4 mph average
30.9 mph max
51'32"

I came home and went inside I just about passed out when I encountered the freezing cold air conditioned house.
After putting my gear up I went and took a nap.
The giant headache, nausea, and dizziness has since passed.
All in all a good ride.

nice day

So I rode the tri-bike up to clements and swam an 800 in roughly the same time as yesterday.
I did some cool down and 2x25 underwater. Then road out and around on my irvington loop.

Ride time is total time including time to Clements.
total time 47'38"
dist-13.39
16.9 mph average
42.1 mph Max
I feel like I'm recovering from Merritt nicely.

test

Well in order to check my swim time for Firecracker tri-on the 5th of July I thought I should put in some pool time.
We have to submit our 800 yards swim time for the tri- because it's being held in a pool(swim portion) and we are being released in waves, I submitted my time as 14:00min as a rough guess.

So after warming up for a couple hundred yards I swam my
800 yards in 14min04sec82hundredths.
A few cool down laps and goofing around with mom.

I did take it pretty easy and it's soon after the 12 hr run so who knows.

Lake Merritt 12 hour

Well being cautious and unable to really put in the big mileage needed to run fast and long(due to my back) I was skeptical as to weather I would be even remotely ok @ the Lake Merrit 12 hour run.
So We pulled into Oakland Friday the 12th and got our room right on The marina in Oakland.
We scoped out the race course and I did my best to get some sleep.
So the race....
Well I employed SERIOUS strategy!
The course was 3.15 miles around Lake Merritt, aid every 1.5 miles and a seperate smaller .9 mile loop for your last hour or so of running so as to make all your miles count.
Well I opted to walk fot the first 4.5 miles! I got a good gauge as to how long things could take if things went bad.
Well After that I ran half a lap then walked ate and digested.
My 6 hour time was very slow, barely a marathon. Poppy worked on my feet, bad blisters, and I just kept eating.
Seems since Javelina I have learned how to manage my food intake for the most part.
After 3 hours I make my self eat as much as I can, Just forcing myself.
Unfortunately about 8 hours or 9hrs in I started to feel funky although I never blacked out or barfed.
I did stop again to get some foot work and we finally got it right.
I really picked things up toward the end considering how much I stopped and how easy I took it the first 6 hours.
Toward the end I just managed to squeeze in 1 last lap and with barely 19 minutes left I started out on the small loop.
So The last 2 miles I turned a 10 min mile then a 6minute 30 sec mile to finish with 49 miles in 11hours 56 minutes and no time left !
Not bad for no training!

funny

We had a pretty good trip.
A Little climbing . Yes the boulder above is overhanging and I'm turned sideways!
Climbed @ Indian rocks in Berklely.
So we spent alot of time with my family took Zane to the river, walked all over.

I'm breaking up my trip into separate post/ days.
