The killer/the aftermath
Race 2
P and loo dog didnt get to go so I drove myself so no pics of the race ony the aftermath.
Crap this was tough!!!!
Flagstaff Marathon!
80 people signed up for the full 26.2 only 70+ started, fortunately the 10k and 1/2 are run on the same course(sort of) @ the same time. We all start together.
Well as far as the marathon goes barely half finished.
I finished 29th with a time of 5hrs8min!
The winner only finished in 3hrs47min!
This thing was like an ultra. Brutal. Totally nasty and fun, it kind of grinds away @ you
If you truely love a challenge and can come to terms with having to run slow this is a race for you.
It's a mix of single track and 4wd rode and weird random turns"well marked" through grass. Actually the weird turns and the whole course is very well planned out
1st you do the 10 k red loop (6 mile course)
then you come back through the start and start 7.1 mile black loop.
After that you come back through the start run the red loop 6mile course again then one final loop on the black loop for the full marathon.
Your last red and black loop make you run a kind of figure 8.
It was actually really cool and not boring.
It should be noted that the course is also part of a sno shoe loop so there is a bit of grass and the course itself feels really random except that its marked really really well.
I dont think it would be possible to just go up and run the exact course because its "made "and marked special for the race.
Realistically even with a taper for this race I think I would be very hard pressed to break 4hrs30min.VERY! This is specifically a personal challenge.
I saw this course CRUSH some very very fit people!
In fact I would use this as a training run for a bigger race(which is what I did)
I would not go to this race for a p.r or you can plan on getting crushed unless you are an elite runner.
recap 26.2 as part of no-taper training.
5 hours 8min
