Lemmon-Aide

Headed out to Sabino, ran the road up up and away took west fork over to romero pass.
Climbing and climbing and climbing, some nasty climbing to get to tinker knob.

Well I made it to the top of Lemmon ,came out by the observatory after 6hours25minutes.

Took the road down down down for another hour then mom showed up and picked me up, total run time 7 hours 31minutes 46 seconds. Elevation gain 8400 feet gaaaack.


This turned out to be an incredible experience for me.
I actually feel good.

change of plan

Well I had planned on running romero all the way through up to the Lemmon then run the road down to windy point or so and call for a ride,but got a late start .....I did run phone line(the long way and all the links) up and over to west fork then got almost all the way to the cathedral junction and turned around so as not to get stuck up after dark.

I was tired today. I guess I have been running alot and working 9 days straight is kinda taxing.

I saw a big old desert tortoise on phone line, Alot of wildflowers, heard some sheep,
saw an owl looking for a snack in the water? or maybe just at its reflection? Bats and bugs and finally I remembered to smile.

Today was rough on me....total run time 6 hours 13 minutes13 seconds.

I may actually skip sets tonight.
Training is starting to really kick my ass, My taper is getting near.

damn it

Locked my keys in Jeep after work.(Still in the parking lot!!!!)
Had to wait for mom to run me by the spare set.

Hauled ass up to finger rock trail head.Got a late start so I decided to just run slow and explore pontatoc ridge.

Very cool trail got lost immediatly :) Lots of fun, had a light so I ran til dark.
Ran for 56min04sec74.

Maybe tomorrow I can get a faster junp on things and get up there sooner.
I want to explore more.

I got kinda freaked out because I'm running slow and my mileage is way down because my body just won't tolerate it.

I picked a real challenge for my first 50....well it picked me sort of.

slow motion

Shot up to sabino ,ran out the long way and linked to phone line, then up up and away all the way out to west fork.

Took the road back.

My foot bones and junk hurt , muscles- A-okay though

I really enjoy the trail out to west fork, a little scary, the trail is kinda washed out in spots and a bit rough.
Gorgeous, silent.

I could see some people had set up camp way back in there.
Okay so its not that far from the top of phone line, like 2 miles.

my wings hurt

So it's the day after yetsreday (Esperrero loop). :)

P, Lotus and I went up to A mountain.
They hiked around while I ran the trails and up and around on the road -total -run time-47min,27sec,42

Its monday so sets- oh how I wanted to skip today( I have to be up @ 330am to work @ 4am :( but hopefully afterwork I'll double up and hit phoneline/ seven falls, :)

I ran the esperrero loop with the TTR yesterday.

I am covererd in deep scratches. The "trail" I use that term loosly,was non-existant on the back side of cathedral. So me and 4 other fellas had to navigate our way down and over to Romero. Fortunately I got us to the right spot.
Total run time was like 6hour 30 minute.


It was funny really, like 19 people or so signed in @ the beginning and I ran in the #2 spot for about 2 hours then I dropped back behind a few people who had ran the loop before, then I dropped back into a pack of 4 guys, I still stayed 6th overall.

When I finished, supposedly everyone else was done? except for the two fellas behind me who were like 30 minutes back?

How was that possible? I didnt get passed.Perhaps everyone else turned around after the nasty climb right before cathedral? Weird, not a big deal though.

I would probably not do the link up/down the canyon to romero again, there is no trail, very bad , slightly dangerous.
Romero itself and esperrero/cathedral are both good but the link through the canyon to join the 2 is nasty.

Maybe a machete and full length Gaiters or blue jeans or armor.


I would like to stash some trail tools up there and maybe some ribbons and rework that bad portion of trail.

Getting to that part is Very difficut though.


So in summary It was a great bloody run and everyone who ran that day became blood brothers and sisters....
I spent about a half hour leaching the catclaw and manzanita/mesquite toxin from my legs using hot towels.

Oh it snowed and was windy too. I will never forget this run/hike/evil, ever,ever,ever.

I may do this again soon, but probably from romero to see if I can find my way up to cathedral, to see if the trail is easier to follow from down below.

I plan on just exploring the area in general any way It's amazing.

best laid plans

I had planned on getting up this morning and going over to Sentinal peak and runnning up to the microwave towers.

I ended up working an 11 hour shift last night.
Well there goes that plan.
My left foot(top ) is still a little sore.

Ran over to the running shop during lunch and picked up a new pair of brooks cascadias.

Well the top of my left foot is swollen and sore from Saturday.

After work I headed up to finger rock to break in the new shoes.

The new shoes are sweet, I even ran up to the park in em, nice and flat(neutral) but extra mooshy and squishy.
They are a horrible bright red, but the comfort and extra tread this new model comes with is worth the atrocious color scheme. An excellent replacement for my old model cascadias.

It's so on......
Off work @ 5ish ,had my gear went straight to fingerrock, ran for 30 min out well past the springs. I played it smart and speed walked through the super steep techy stuff and ran when it felt good instead of trying to highstep up boulders thigh high in succession.

Mic check -one, two,one,two

Sunday- I've been down sick for 3 or 4 days.

I'm on antibiotics.

I did my taxes today and even saw my family. Laundry.

I went up to finger rock ran past the springs right to where the big 15 or 20 foot high rock is directly next to the trail and turned around. I wiped out on the way back down and then promptly turned on my headlamp and kept going :)
I flew like 20 feet and landed in a smooth spot on the trail :)
